Gankutsuou from Gonzo. One of my favourite Gonzo series. Actually, one of my favourite anime of all times. Highly recommended.
Great package. Simple yet great quality. Not as good as R2 Gankutsuou
package but definitely up there. Personally, I would have liked a
booklet but given that it is an r1 release, this is more than decent. Covers look gorgeous.
Double sided covers, since R2 was released in 12 volumes.Back cover has screenshots and synopsis. Inside, there is a doublesided insert with illustation on one side and chapter titles on another. Again, great looking illustrations.
What I loved the most about this release is the simply gorgeous looking disc printing. It is hard to notice from the picture but you can see through parts of the disc printing and it just looks fantastic.
Encoding seems pretty good. Usual Geneon stuff. Problem free. Probably as good as r1 can get. Probably as good as r2 release. I missed out on artboxes which is a shame. It looked pretty nice.
Extras include interview with the director, comments from japanese voice actors and etc. I think only thing that is missing from R2 release is a special
booklet. Overall though, it seems pretty nice how we get most of R2
extras. I'm guessing that special booklet illustrations are probably in
the dvds though.
What I didn't like though, is English dub. Usually, I cannot care less about english dub. However, this was one of the few that I wanted to watch with english dub due to the atmosphere of the series. Unfortunately, dub isn't great. Also, as original series never had 5.1ch, we only get 2.0 stero. R2 had
stereo only. Other than that, solid release I think. I'm usually not
too sensitive on audio side.
Oveall, great release. Buy it if you love the series. Period.
