The problem I have with Macross F is the main character Alto. He is way too reckless. It is just too much that he even look stupid. Charging inside the enemy ship without any knowledge and backups, is something that I just cannot understand. The fact that he actually succeeded in rescuing Luka bugs me. He should have failed and that would have taught him a lesson. I don't like how his actions aren't portrayed negatively. It is as if his reckless actions are mistakenly accepted as courage. I hope we see Ozuma kicking Alto's ass soon.
Battle scenes in this episode was spectacular. Very intense. Macross Quarter turning into a Valkyrie shape was something that I did not expect. It kind of reminded me of Gurren Lagann. Ranka and Sheryl duet during the battle scene was a nice touch.
About the earring, Alto definitely lost it when his Valkyrie got exploded. He is so~ stuck with Sheryl now ;p I have to wonder why Sheryl's singing suddenly came out of the earring though. That alien guy on a unknown machine seemed to be hearing it too so it isn't something Alto imagined.
The unknown machine that obviously out-specs any of the Valkyries Macross Quarter has, is a mystery. They don't seem to be on the side of Vajura but doesn't seem like they are on the side of Macross either. The pilot reacted to Sheryl's singing and seemed to be aware what that is, unlike Gentra-nin who didn't even know what singing is.
Catherine is already having a hard time. I actually expected her to blend in well since she worked with Ozuma before.
*p.s: Whatever happened to Ranka vs. Sheryl thing last episode? It seems like Ranka's jealousy toned down a bit this episode.
